The word robot is born
Karel Čapek's play "R.U.R." premieres in Prague. Its robots are artificial workers made in a factory to replace laborers. The word comes from the Czech "robota", forced labor, and was suggested by Josef, the author's brother. The robot was born as a synonym for worker.
