Brazil passes a universal basic income law
Lula signs Lei 10.835, by Senator Eduardo Suplicy: a basic income, equal for all Brazilians and for foreigners resident for five years, with no conditions. Brazil is cited as the first country to pass such a law, but implementation was left to the government's discretion, in stages, and was never completed.
