Alaska pays the first oil dividend

June 14, 1982

The Alaska Permanent Fund, created with oil revenue, pays $1,000 to every resident. The payment is annual, equal for everyone and unconditional, and it continues to this day. It is the closest thing there is to a permanent universal basic income.
